MONASTERIES

 In the region of Magnesia there are many religious monuments of all times.
(Early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine) were built from the 5th to the 19th AD century. Many are surviving today and are from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Monastery of Agia Triada GATZEAS
Built in 1816 in an area that overlooks the Pagassitikos, on the ruins of an old castle. It was in operation up to 1963 and abandoned in 1989. Today is under the dependency of Athos Lavra.

Saint Gerasimos monastery MAKRINITSAS
Built in 1795 and completed in 1806. Nowadays it is a nunnery.

Monastery Agios Athanasiou Lafkou  
It was built by the Zipanioti municipality in 1795 donation of Captain Stergios Basdeki. There are indoor and outdoor sculptures of Milios.
Around the the fortress are built auxiliary spaces, cloister and cells. It celebrates on 2 May.

Monastery of St. John VYZITSAS
Located in the center of Vyzitsa. Constructed by Dimos Zipanioti in 1797.is a basilica dome. At the southwest end of the monastery there is a building that housed the cells. Celebrated on August 29

Abbey St. Lawrence
It was built either in the 11th century or in 1378 by San Laurentius in honor of Archdeacon Lawrence who was martyred in Rome in 258. It was Patriarchal Monastery. It has a domed cruciform church with fitted slabs and pillars of another ancient temple. On the west side there is a solar calendar.
